What I actually got done

and what we did: we did do the grocery list, which turned out to be a fairly short i.e. inexpensive list--less than $40!

This afternoon we all played a beautiful new board game Cat'r had bought called Tobago. As Cat'r was reading the rules, and at the beginning of the game, I was thinking, "This sounds soooo complicated--argh!". But as the game went on, it started making sense and being fun! In fact, I managed to win!

We followed that up with a couple rousing games of Cosmic Wimpout, the first one being probably the shortest game we have ever played! Cat'r rolled a Freight Train (5 fives--instant 500 points!) plus 30 points beyond that. And we were suddenly at Last Licks (last round of turns)! Of course he won! So we played a second time, and I won that one. :-)

We never went to Cat'r's--B. and he will be working on stuff over there tomorrow. And I never got any knitting or crocheting done today. I'll do some of that tomorrow while the guys are gone.

I did manage to give all three of my ukuleles some love and attention while the guys were at the grocery this evening. :-)

I still need to finish eating breakfast--got distracted by the Intarwebz.

Note to self: work up the song "Sing" (The Carpenters) for ukulele and voice.

The Song

The song that AdelleTheGreat requested I do is Bob Dylan's "Percy's Song", but she wants me to cover Joan Baez's cover of this! I hope to get a complete version of this soon. I ordered on DVD the film/documentary "Don't Look Back" last night. It was shot during Dylan's 1965 British concert tour; and Joan Baez is featured in it, including her singing "Percy's Song". I'm hoping the DVD will have the entire song as a bonus audio track on it, since I read somewhere that there are no complete songs in the video portion whatsoever.

Of course it's a long song--it's Dylan. No way I'll be able to memorize that. I need to think of a way to make it interesting enough and not "flat"/too much the same throughout.

Right now Cat'r and Bunnicula are out shopping for a futon for Cat'r's apartment. Cat'r doesn't have a couch at the moment, and he wants to get a nice futon to do that job.

When they get back, I guess I'll be going over to Cat'r's so that he and I can play Rock Band--specifically The Beatles: Rock Band! Cat'r just got himself the Gretsch Duo-Jet Guitar for The Beatles: Rock Band for the PS3! He wants us to play Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band tonight! Ima play bass, I guess. He'll play guitar, for a change--usually he does vocals.

Mostly I didn't do anything else today! Just the two music videos (after working out a new melody for "Don't Hurry The Time Along" because the melody I had for it originally was toooo similar to other things I had done) and being online.

Cat'r came over this evening, and we all watched more of "The Sarah Jane Adventures".

I need to get useful things done tomorrow. I am such a procrastinator!

Mixed Pickles

So I didn't get anything done on that list today that was in the last post. Oh well, there's always tomorrow. ::grin::

I spent a lot of time online today; and I spent some time playing my cigar box ukulele and trying to work out an unique melody for some lyrics I came up with. It's not there yet.

This evening Cat'r came over, and we all played "Ra: The Dice Game" and Hearts. Then we watched an episode of "The Sarah Jane Adventures".

I should be thinking about supper sometime soon...

Up extremely early, etc.

I got up at 4am to have a very very late (or very very early) meal, which I did while catching up on tweets on my iPod Touch.

Now I'm on my PC, just hangin' out online. I really need to get back to bed for a couple more hours' sleep.

What I want to do today (which isn't much):

--Send money order off to a YouTube friend for his CD
--Wash dishes
--Print out a couple songs Cat'r and I are going to do together

My brain is going blank. I need more sleep. :-P

A two-event day

In other words, I didn't get a lot done. :-P

I wrote a song over the last few days and made the music video today:

Then this evening I went over to Cat'r's, and we watched some Doctor Who. The last time I saw his apartment, it was EMPTY! It's gonna take a little while for him to get things straightened out, but it's coming along.

It's getting chilly out! Well, of course, it *should* be, seeing's how it's November and all. As we went back out to the car, the dead leaves were drifted all over the sidewalks, and the wind was rattling the ones still on the trees. It's a bittersweet time of year...I do love it.

Ukuleles (yes, again)

So what else is new?!

Today I fooled around with my little blue fruity Mahalo, to give its strings a chance to stretch out some, since they have to anyway. It's sounding MUCH better (to me anyway) with the Aquila Nylgut strings on it than when I had the Worth Brown (light tension) strings on it.

I also played around a lot with my lovely cigar box ukulele (aka CBU). The more I play it, the more I like it. AND I finally figured out a song that has strumming, with some speed, that I can do. I usually have to have a strap on a ukulele for doing anything with any speed whatsoever, as ukes always seem just too slippery to hold onto for me. But I've got one song ready to go, Monday or Tuesday. And a slow, pretty one in a day or so after that.

I've got a Thanksgiving song lined up that I'll probably do on the white Makala (whose sound seems to get sweeter with each passing day!).

Cat'r and I have a couple of duets in the works. I'll just say one is a Beatles song, and one is a Doctor Who Christmas filk song. :-D

A friend from Ukulele Underground came over today to do some repairs on one of my other ukuleles (the poor little fruity Mahalo) and brought along one of the cigar box ukuleles he made. He GAVE it to me! He said he "believes in random acts of kindness". Wow! Here is my video about that:

Ukuleles, repairs, etc.

Yay! A nice person from Ukulele Underground is coming over tomorrow to adjust the action on my little fruit-covered Mahalo soprano ukulele that I never play anymore, put a strap button on it, and put new Aquila strings (that I already have on hand here) on too! I'll be glad to get use out of it again!

Meanwhile I'm contemplating how I'm going to adjust to the concert Fluke when I get it, meaning "will I have difficulty holding it?". So far I've needed some kind of strap for every ukulele that I've tried. I can't have a strap button installed in it in the traditional way (drilling a hole!) because the sides and back are made from "injection molded ABS with fiber glass reinforcement". The warranty explicitly states "This warranty shall be invalid if the product is damaged as a result of misuse, abuse, neglect, alteration, or repair by anyone other than our own production facility." So if it turns out I need a strap for the Fluke, it'll have to be attached in some non-invasive way.

As for my white Makala soprano, I'm pretty happy with the way it plays and sounds; and I have a nice leather mandolin strap on that, so it's comfortable to hold and play.
