So I had gotten a Kala Kiwi soprano ukulele, but it just didn't sound right to me. I sent it back for adjustments. Instead the seller sent me a new one, but it's not like the one I had before, not having the pretty glossy back and sides (which match the top), plus he had forgotten to put the strap button in as I had requested. Not a happy camper.

I talked to him on the phone, and I'll be sending it back for a full refund.

With that refund money and the money I've been saving, I'm probably going to get a concert Fluke. Stay tuned.

I did a little ukulele music video that is really just a chord progression for a beginners contest entry. I doubt I'm gonna win anything, as I am not a serious picker, just a simple strummer. But it's fun to get involved in these contests anyway. :-)

I wrote a song in the middle of the night last night. I got the words down, then sneaked as far into the back as I could with my little handheld tape recorder and sheet of paper with the words on and sang very very softly. I did not want to forget the melody like I had on a previous song!

Cat'r is probably not coming over tonight, as he's kinda tuckered out, so I'll probably do a video of the new song tonight, after it gets dark. It's called "A Wish".

ETA: I made the video--really dark (literally), but here it is.

I do not understand how a same-sex couple getting married can threaten my heterosexual marriage. I just don't. And why, as a heterosexual, I get to have certain rights regarding life-and-death decisions re: my spouse and a same-sex couple wouldn't. This IS a civil rights issue.

Time

Time seems to get away so fast when the day closes in sooner now. Don't get me wrong, I love being on standard time. I wish we could do away with Daylight Saving Time altogether. And I do like the Dark Time of Year, although in the last year or so I may have developed a touch of Seasonal Affective Disorder. Feeling sadder as the day draws down...

But I felt like I wasted the time there was today: I guess it didn't help that I slept beyond 9am, then dawdled over breakfast. I did have an appointment today, but after that I spent a lot of time online. A lot of that was interacting with some nice folks on Ukulele Underground and YouTube, but still...

So now I am somehow eating lunch late (again) at almost 6pm!

After Cat'r gets here, he'll probably fix himself some supper, then we'll all go to Target to get a few things we need. That's a little bit constructive, right?

So, in some ways I feel like I wasted a good portion of the day; but in other ways, I spent time with nice people and played my ukulele. I think the second half of that outweighs the first.

Maybe I didn't "waste" too much time after all. :-)

Cat'r's moving out

Well, when Cat'r came up here in mid-September, I knew he was only going to be staying with us temporarily, just until he got an apartment. He has a nice job now and is well on the way to having his place fully outfitted.

So today he moved his computer and clothes and ... boohoo! It *feels* like he's moving far away (again), but in reality he'll only be maybe 5 minutes or less away--not down in Louisville like he was for almost four YEARS. That separation was really really hard.

But still...I think we are still planning at some point to all have a large apartment or rented house together. I hope so. I just really miss him when he's not here...

So I hauled off and did a sad song video. The content is mostly not true, but it feels sad and that's what I needed to sing--that emotion. While you're there, why not look at some of my other videos on my YouTube channel? And rate and comment and maybe even subscribe? Thanks!

Ingrid Michaelson concert + two photos

All those tweets below, in the post just previous to this: that was the Ingrid Michaelson concert we went to last night at the 20th Century Theater in Cincinnati, Ohio.

It was sold out. We had purchased our tickets early in October, as soon as they went on sale. Even so, the line went around the block, all of us waiting to get into the theatre. And it was one of those everyone-stands-up concerts, which I haven't been to in years because of my bad back. Eep! A nice man who works at the 20th Century found me a chair, so I was able to sit off and on--other times I stood up to see better. :-)

The crowd was mostly college-age, which made us three feel ooold. :-P The one thing that was bad was the disrespect that the crowd showed the opening acts (talking the entire time); and later on during Ingrid's performance, there were some girls behind B. that kept talking. He told me later he was tempted to turn around and dump his bottle of water on them!

Anyway, the second opening act (yes, there were two opening acts!) did seem to go on forEVer. The main act didn't get started until 9:45pm!

But it was sooo worth the wait! Ingrid Michaelson is so talented! She is a singer-songwriter with an incredible voice, she plays ukulele, keyboards, and even DRUMS! She writes amazing and wonderful songs! It was a high-energy, fun, wonderful concert! And there was lots of audience participation.

So even though the start of the evening wasn't so good, Ingrid's part of it was GREAT! And B. bought all three of her CDs for us, and I bought a tour poster.

Knitting and a New Ukulele!

First: I finally finished my Mango/Jeeves scarf, along with a matching hat. Here are photos.

THEN: I got a new ukulele! It's a Kala Kiwi, which I have been wanting for almost two months--the length of time I've been *playing* the ukulele!

ETA Nov. 6th: I got a replacement because I wasn't happy with the Kiwi I had, but it's not at all what I wanted, so no Kala Kiwi for me.
