Picky picky

The charity group I'm in put out a call for hats and scarves and warm things for teens at this one drop-in center. I started working on a nice warm hat today, loom-knitting (which is fast). But then I heard that teens don't like this particular yarn, Lion Brand Homespun, so the hat might end up in the bottom of a backpack and not be worn. These are street kids. But I guess they want black and wool (which I can't work with--allergies) and whatever looks tough. Well, that's not what I have on hand, so I guess this particular hat will have to go to some other place where people would be happy just to be warm. Sheesh, kids.

Good grief! Well, if they get cold enough, they'll be glad to have them. That's the nice thing about animals as opposed to people; they are simply grateful for any comfort they can get.
You know, I could crochet or knit "cuddles" (pet blankets) for animals in shelters. I need to find out more. That's one of the many things that group I'm in does. :-)
where'd you hear that teens don't like that kind of yarn?

because unless you heard it from a homeless teen, you really can't compare the two.

homeless kids do take just about anything. and when i was in high school, i knew a bunch of not-homeless kids who loved that kind of yarn. i'd say, don't worry about it. make the hat and if some kid doesn't want it, some other kid who needs it will take it and appriciate it.
I heard it from the lady in our group who donates our stuff to a shelter out in Washington state. Maybe it's that area or something.
