I really admire people who can create like this. I've tried a couple of times to pick up crocheting. Each time I try, I have to teach myself the basic stitch all over again. My hands get so tensed up. and I have trouble crocheting even rows, I mean the same number of stitches or loops or whatever, per row. I may try again, though.
I had the same feeling of getting really tense when I was knitting on that pale green hat in-the-round. I was fine while I was on the circular needles, but moving onto the DPNs and then doing decreases made me SO TENSE. Grrr. But it turned out pretty much okay. :-D My more favourite way to make hats is to crochet them top-down. Much easier to rip back and fix things as you go along. :-)

About crochet: just count your stitches in each row as you go along, then you won't suddenly have a narrowing piece of work. Practice, practice. :-) Use lighter-coloured yarn and heavier, fatter yarn (requiring a larger hook) for practice.
