The latest on my mother is that she's BACK! But her speech still doesn't sound right still. Maybe that will come back, with some therapy. She's lucid and remembers everything (other than from the time she started acting strangely up until after the surgery, remembering only that they kept coming in to check on her every 2 hours, asking who the blasted President is! LOL!) She had a nice meal last night (roast beef, mashed potatoes, green beans, apple pie!) and this morning she had oatmeal, toast, and orange juice. The reason I am so ecstatic about the food is that they weren't sure if she would get her swallowing function back, which would've meant feeding through a tube in the stomach, at least for a while (yuck!). Anyway, the physical therapist will be testing her this afternoon to see what needs to be done to get her strength back. But things are looking pretty good. They have to see about her having some confusion at night, though. ::sigh:: But we're hoping for her to be able to come home and NOT have to go to any long-term care (nursing home). That would make her terribly depressed and not want to go on.
