March 5th, 2009

I danced with my science teacher riding a motorcycle because

I'm cool like that.

This is a sort of crazy meme, so here we go (under the cut). )

Why did I hurry with the hat?

I crocheted a hat this afternoon/evening. It took longer to make than hats usually do for me because it is sport weight yarn, using a smaller hook.

And then the pattern. I chose it because it was approximately the style I wanted, using sport weight yarn. But I had no intention of putting beads on/in it. Then we got to the part in the increasing, on the crown, where it started looking like a warped LP. You *know* something is wrong with the pattern when it does that. But I did a few more rounds, just to see. It was gonna be too big for my head. :-/ So I ripped back a few rows/rounds to where I thought it would be the right diameter. Then I totally diverged from the pattern, doing double-crochets (because you get to the bottom of the hat faster!) instead of single crochets and half double crochets. As I went along, I did some decreases. But near the end I added a couple increases. :-P I wanted a snug enough fit so it wouldn't blow off in a high wind (like we've been having today), but not so snug as to be uncomfortable.

For the edging, I chose a different scallop pattern than the one in the pattern, with a different, contrasting colour yarn (same yarn, different colour).

And for a flower, to tie the hat together with a scarf that it's going with, that I made years ago, I got a little pattern from yet another book. I'll add the flower tomorrow when I have better light, to see exactly how I want to place it. I go for the flapper look. ::grin::

All this is to go with a long, heavy, cabled sweater that is more like a jacket. Which I will almost certainly not wear this weekend because it's going to be too warm for it.

SO WHY DID I HURRY to finish this hat?!

Oh yeah, and I already have in my head matching wrist warmers, with a little ruffled edge. I'll do those next week.
