February 8th, 2009

Eye problems, Zombie hat, etc.

I woke up at 9am and all was well. I woke up again at 9:30am (planned time to get up), and the vision in my right eye was blurry/smeary. Eyedrops didn't help. I've had problems like this before, so I always do the "check for stroke" things like do I have strength in both arms? can I smile/grin on BOTH sides of my face? etc.

But I still don't like it and have to work at not freaking out.

I had breakfast (no reading or using my eyes for anything that would strain them) and did a few other things around the house in case of.

Then I rested a little, with eyes closed. Bunnicula sat in the bedroom with me, playing his "Disney Fairies: TinkerBell" game. I asked him to describe things he was doing in the game, so that was enjoyable. :-)

By about 1pm things seemed better. :-) Bunnicula went out to get a few things, so I worked on and finished my Zombie Hat (it's not as much strain on my eyes to wrap the yarn on the loom pegs as it is to do actual needle knitting or crocheting). Yay! Next hat will be all-out black.

Gonna check email briefly, then finally fix the beef (I didn't last night)!

Lights, Part II

So after I took down the Christmas decorations, including the little string of coloured lights in the bedroom, I was doing okay. There were still the clear lights up across the street that someone kept up past Candlemas. It was always cheery to look out the window and see them, no matter the time or weather.

This afternoon I was feeling happy: my eyes were better, it was sunny, I finished my Zombie Hat, I knitted some on Cat'r's square coaster, and generally things felt better. :-)

Then sundown approached and the colour started fading out of the sky. Ever since last fall I have been having that really depressed feeling when it gets towards sundown. I have no idea why. I can't remember ever feeling this way before in my life.

So I finally put up the other string of lights that Bunnicula bought for me when he got the coloured lights: these are frosted white lights, but they give off an almost blue light. They look blue in photos (which I hope to get up *some*time). I like the coloured lights better, but those are going to be just for Christmastime. I can have these plain ones up the rest of the year. :-)

Have I developed a mild case of SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder)?
