Still here/various

We won't go above freezing until Sunday. That's when we'll probably have more leaking. There is not any way I can see for them to fix things until all the ice and snow are gone off the roof. :-/

So I guess we'll have to move things and cover things with plastic and think what else we can do until they can repair things.

My yellow Sailor 1911M Colors pen came home (again) today, with a fine nib now. I'm waiting for it to warm up before I ink it. I hope it's smooooth-writing.

I frogged a simple cable scarf I was about twelve inches into last night. It was just feeling too stiff and didn't have any drape to it. Next time I try that pattern, I'll go up another needle size or so. I left a note for myself in the bag with the yarn.

Need to go get some (late) breakfast.

Update-y-ness

Bunnicula got a pair of boots: Skechers. They don't come up real high, he said (he's out doing errands still, so I haven't seen them yet), but they're well-made. He's having to walk in the street a lot of the time, facing traffic, as the snowplows threw all the snow up onto the sidewalks!

I inked my Sailor 1911M with fine nib with Sailor Jentle Brown ink. NICE. It writes like an extra-fine nib, but that's what I wanted. I only have to barely touch the pen to paper and it glides along beautifully!

About the leaking roof/ceiling and stuff: I phoned the landlord. All I said was my name, and he started shouting at me. It was incredible. He said that they can't even clear any snow and ice up there and put a tarp down because that would make it worse. He said we're not the only people in this situation, and to just move the affected furniture. I even asked him to please stop shouting at me. "I'm not shouting at you!" So basically we're on our own. I am a bit worried about wires, so I'm going to disconnect things if (probably when) we start getting leaking on Sunday, when the temps. go up above freezing and it's sunny. We also have a bit of falling plaster.

I phoned the cable company and got the nicest rep. :-) He's going to send someone out as soon as he can (which will be Tuesday) who can put in a longer cable wire, so we can put the cable modem in a different part of the room. I'm not sure what we'll do about the DVR, but we can see about that too. So we may be a couple days without Internet access. But the rep. was so nice, I said that he was actually playing the role of psychologist. And HE said that's what he's studying to become! He's just strapped for cash and doesn't want to take out another loan at present. He's going to be a good one when he gets there. :-) He's also noting in my account that if we have to disconnect our cable for a few days, for us to get a credit for that time.

We've started moving some things in the living room. We've got some clear plastic drop cloth stuff to put over some things. We might have to get more. But that's enough working on that today.

I'm gonna KNIT. Or crochet. Or do something relaxing. :-)

Preparing

I got all the (other) game machines unplugged (which believe me was a rats' nest of wires), and that little shelf/stand moved away. Then we moved the TV stand, which contains the TV, tuner, VHS machine, DVR, and DVD player. Then Bunnicula moved the heavy wood record cabinet that is full of LPs. All the stuffed animals that usually reside on the couch are asleep in a double-bagging of lawn/leaf/garbage bag on the couch.

Saturday Cat'r and Bunnicula need to go to the hardware store to get more plastic drop cloth stuff.

The Wii is put away in its box it originally came in, along with the stand and the power cord. Cat'r told me to leave the sensor bar and Wii Speak on top of the TV. The Wiimotes and nunchucks are also in the living room.

I'm hoping I can somehow keep the cable modem safe and working. It's sitting on top of one of our many CDs cases in the living room at present. I hope we don't have to disconnect it.

The warm-up is going to be on Sunday, so if we're going to get leaking, that'll be the day it starts.

There's something coming on Monday/Tuesday. Weather buffs are trying to figure out if it will be a rain event or a big snow storm. Just to be safe, we'll probably stock up at the grocery store this weekend.
