Yesterday's "adventures"
Not to make light of all that has happened in our area--because I think the officials are going to try to get federal disaster relief funds because of the widespread damage--but it was...an adventure.
The winds (you will see more about that in tonight's tweets) took out power to 90% of SW Ohio. We lost power about 2:20pm. Since I need to be in a/c because of medical conditions and it was still 90*F. out then, we had to find a place to go, which was *not* easy.
We went to Good Samaritan Hospital (because hospitals always have back-up generators), after trying several other places and seeing that their lights were out.
We stayed there for about an hour, then found out the Starbucks up the street from our house had power (and Starbuckses are ALWAYS freezing cold in summer). So we went there. I almost got blown over (seriously!) when we were getting out of the cab to walk into Starbucks. Had to hold onto Bunnicula!
It was jam-packed! Everyone was looking for a safe haven. We stayed there until about 7pm, then came home. No power. It was borderline tolerable for me temperature-wise just long enough for us to grab things and go elsewhere.
Bunnicula finally found a place for us. We had scouted out places and had a list, but most of the places either didn't have rooms available or didn't have power.
We ended up at a really nice place downtown, in a SUITE! It had a living room with dining area (and pass-through to the kitchen--yes a full kitchen!), separate bedroom with a queen-sized bed, nice bathroom, TVs in the living room and bedroom. There was also a balcony, which was really scary, seeing's how we were on the 12th floor. I did venture out this morning to grab a few photos of the Main Library across the street.
Bunnicula took the bus out here to our apt. this morning to see if the power was on and it *was*! So we checked out before noon (check-out time there) and got home *about* noon.
I'm keeping it freezing cold in here, just in case during repairs to other lines, anything might go wrong with ours.
Hungry. Need to go eat jarred baby food (we had to ditch almost EVERYthing in the refrigerator).
