Movie

Bunnicula and I watched a movie today that I had taped off the Independent Film Channel: "Dim Sum: A Little Bit of Heart". It was really good, a sweet slightly-sad slice of Chinese-American life.

Geraldine, the youngest of Mrs. Tam's children, is unmarried and living at home with her mother. She is dithering about whether to marry her long-time boyfriend (which Mrs. Tam wants--to see all her children married) and thereby leaving her mother alone...but also wondering whether she is ready for marriage. To complicate matters, a fortune teller had told her mother years before that this year, her 62d, would be the year in which she would die. So she is anxious to see her daughter marry.

I do not really know what happened at the end because much of this film is in Cantonese. I saw a review on amazon.com that says that this film was/is subtitled. But we didn't see subtitles at *all*. I need to go back and see if I need to toggle something on the DVR.

I liked this film, but I feel we missed out on a LOT.

ETA: I turned on closed captioning on the TV. And here is what happened: I saw all the dialogue in English subtitled in English. But when someone spoke in Chinese, it simply subtitled it as (Speaking in Chinese). So it was the IFC that sent the movie out without proper subtitles. Grrrr.

Bunnicula thinks he can get a copy of the movie from the library. If not, Cat'r thinks he can get it from NetFlix.
