Ah, there is nothing like...
a nice warm teddy bear hot water bottle. :-P
Seriously, I had gotten a new heating pad--a brand name, Sunbeam-- to use on my neck/shoulder. But when I opened it, it had a dire warning that the electrical cord contained lead and that in the state of California it was recognized to cause cancer and birth defects. AND that one should wash one's hands after handling it!! Why were they selling it anywhere ELSE in the country then? And then of course there were all the *other* dire warnings regarding the use of heating pads. ::sigh::
I decided to give that up as a bad purchase.
I turned to a bear. A bear that I had had since 1999. His name is Fashy, after the hot water bottle that goes inside him. I had only used him once before, just for warming up the bed and snuggling. But this hot water bottle he carries inside him is *not* made of rubber, doesn't smell funny, and won't wear out as easily at *all*. It's made of thermoplastic.
I got out a 2-cup Pyrex measuring cup, filled it with tap water; got out the temperature probe that attaches to the inside of our microwave and hooked that up. Voila! I take the water's temperature and get the exact warmth I want. So I told the microwave I wanted to heat a beverage, water, to "warm". Apparently that is about 140oF., which is EXACTLY what I wanted. I filled the hot water bottle a little more than half full, expelled the excess air, screwed on the stopper, and popped the bottle into my bear. Ah, cozy warmth. :-) And it seemed to feel cozier and more sleep-inducing as my 15 minutes went along (time my physical therapist recommended). What a yummy experience. :-)
Here is more about Fashy hot water bottles, available here in the USA. You *can* also get them at amazon.com.
I love my Fashy bear; but I decided today I could also use a larger hot water bottle. I am getting the Night Sky Plushie and also the Leopard Plushie Cover for it.
You should check out the Art Gallery! ;-D
