I was up during the night, working with my new computer, tinkering around with my web pages. Then I got back to bed around 6am. I slept until 10am or so.
Then when I had just gotten my breakfast, Monk phoned. He's home from the rehab/nursing home! He was there...a couple months? Maybe not that long. He has MS, and had fallen at home and broken his right shoulder. After the surgery to put him back together, he was sent off to a nice place to do physical therapy and get him back in shape to go back home. So we talked for about two HOURS, catching up on each others' lives. He said that it wouldn't have mattered if I'd phoned him in the early days, as he was still looped out on painkillers. And after that his days were filled with physical therapy and generally socializing with folks at the nursing home. He said it was actually a very positive experience! I am *so* glad. :-)
Then shortly after that my sis phoned; and we talked about what was said in today's status meeting of doctors, physical therapist, other specialists, my brother-in-law, and Mama. Basically, as things stand now, Mama will need extensive assistance the rest of her life. My BIL was told that my sis and he should think long and hard about having Mama go back home with them to live. It will be a full-time job just taking care of Mama. How is my sis going to be able to work *also*, plus get any sleep at night? It's a *nice* nursing home, lots of activities (a lot like the independent-living community Mama lived in many years back), good food, nice nurses and assistants. So my sister is trying to get funding in place in case they have to make the decision for her to stay there long-term. This has been a really up-and-down emotional experience for everyone in the family. It still is. How can someone make that kind of decision for someone else's entire future? And probably against her will? Mama keeps talking about wanting to go home, but it's looking so impossible now...
Anyway, after that, Bunnicula and I had a little quiet wedding anniversary celebration--26 years! We had cake and ice cream and exchanged cards. We weren't *going* to exchange presents, but B. gave me a gift certificate from my favourite brick-and-mortar bookstore. That was nice. :-) Then I logged on and found all the lovely special occasion anniversary gift pages made for us by
The Garden of Friendship. Plus gifts showing up in email and in my guestbook. :-)
The rest of the day was quiet...oh, I did charge up the new cordless phone we *also* got on Sunday. Our other one, a Sony (the first Sony product I ever had that had been sub-standard, IMO) had been acting flaky (flakiER) for at least a month now. It's...almost 10 years old? We got a smaller, lighter-weight Panasonic. So far, seems nice! :-)
So now I just want to check my email, a couple other things then get some SLEEEEEP.
