Confessions of a Disney Prodigal

(posted elsewhere and echoed here)

As a child, I had Disney toys. I even had a Mickey Mouse watch...that I managed to break by winding it up too tight. :-P We watched Disney programs on TV, saw Disney movies, etc.

Then when I became an adult, I found that others with whom I consorted thought of Disney as childish and not really worthy of adult attention. Nor was Disney animation considered in the ranks of the elite. I shared this snobbish attitude. Of course I did not see it as snobbish at the time. :-P

When I began to embody more of my mouse persona (within a short time after beginning my online life), I didn't consider Mickey to be a "real" mouse. Miss Bianca, yes; Mousekin, yes; many other "more-realistic-looking" mice, yes. Not Mickey or Minnie.

What began to turn my wayward steps back towards the homey comforts of Disney was the Japanese infatuation with Disney! And the videogame "Kingdom Hearts" (that I played for only a short time until I became totally enthralled by "Animal Crossing" and had no time for any other game). I finally realized that these Disney characters that we have all grown up with are cultural icons and friendly comforting faces. :-)

My return was completed when I signed up for Disney's Toontown Online. :-) My toon-y self emerged! I am so happy to be amongst the toons I grew up with and the new toons who are all flocking to that wonderful place called Toontown!

Tonight I got an email from the Disney Store Online about a sale they are having. I couldn't resist! I bought some cute Mickey/Minnie undies, a Minnie beanbag doll, and a plush "Princess" horse that doubles as a pajama bag (which *will* go on the bed!). :-)

Long live Disney! Long live Toontown! Love live all that is toon-y and good! :-)
