Wemberly Worried

Okay, that's the title of a Kevin Henkes mousie book; but it also describes me...

I have a 3-month check-up appointment with my rad.onc. doc on Friday; and I am trying not to worry, but of course I am. I guess if I *really* want to worry, I can wait and do that for the mammo in June. ::look of horror::

Mostly I frantically try not to think about this stuff, keeping bizzy bizzy bizzy.

Chat channels/rooms?

I wish I could find a cool channel or room to hang out in. I used to hang out on the #witchcraft channel on Undernet long long ago; and in 2000 I hung out on the #dotcomguy channel on DALnet.

I wish I could find some generic cool place to be. I guess I am nostalgic for the ChatLines of GEnie (General Electric Network of Information Exchange), that long-ago online service that has all but folded. That place was *so* cool, with channels for games, channels for discussion groups, planned events, online restaurants, guest speakers, and everything. People were not so segregated as they are on IRC, where you end up going to a channel that is specific to a certain age group or interest. CompuServe had something similar to GEnie ChatLines (or perhaps it was the other way around). But GEnie was the second online place I ever hung out (Prodigy being the first), and it definitely felt like "family".

LiveJournal itself is a pretty cool community; but whenever I go to any of their IRC channels, there are lots of people there...but not THERE there. Just logged in, but not talking. ::sigh::

So, if anyone has any suggestions or recommendations, please let me know. I prefer IRC, but I can deal with web-based stuff or ICQ stuff or whatever, if I can find some place to be comfy. :-)
